The Epitaphio
Good Friday was ushered in with a bang from good ol' Zeus himself throwing the thunder and lightening bolt and deluging the village with a lot of rain! Then, ta da, as if on cue after Easter preparation and cleaning - the sun decides to rear it's welcome head! The church bell gongs - it's the villagers cue to come to church and bear witness to the magnificent epitaphio! Carnations, lilies, myrrh, lavender, roses adorn Christ's funeral pyre! It's beautiful and so is the church and the redramaticization of the death of Christ! Each Greek village bears witness to it and for those who don't know it - my advice is go to church Easter week in Greece - the Meagalo Euthomada - even if you aren't so religious because you will learn alot about religion and the time of Christ!
