Baptisms, hand knitted baby sweaters ~ the lady from Scotland strikes again!
A baby in a village is always a joy, when they are dydima (twins) and girls on top of that then that's something to celebrate! Baby girl twins were dunked into the baptismal bowl screaming and howling recently. Annointed with oil, a snip of their hair, the village priest hands back the babies to the nono (godfather) and nona (godmother), who in Greek tradition become part of the family!
So, where does the Scottish lady come in? I am blessed with a wonderful friend who happens to be the world's fastest knitter and a talented one at that. In a matter of days, after visiting the yarn store, she handcrafted adorable baby vest sweaters and caps that were gifted to the twins. The village children of Petra are proudly wearing my friend's creations. Now, she's ventured into the mountain and my neighbor's twins are the new fashionistas of the handcrafted knitted world.
If you want to learn how to knit or even meet the lady from Scotland? Come to the Handicraft Bazaar in Ipsilometopo September 14, 2014. You'll learn something and meet some really cool women who are using their hands to craft beautiful things.
